Pitt volleyball players earn AVCA Awards

With the regular season now completed, the AVCA (American Volleyball Coaches Association) named its regional award recipients for the year. As you would expect, Pitt was heavily represented in its East Coast Region.

Leading the way was Pitt head coach Dan Fisher, who was named the regional Head Coach of the Year. Also on the individual award front, Kayla Lund was named Freshman of the Year. That was great to see because, as I stated, she finished behind Florida State’s Taryn Knuth for that award from the ACC. We won’t know if she would have beaten out Knuth here, though, because Knuth was in a different region (East) and she won the award for that one.

Pitt also placed Kamalani Akeo, Stephanie Williams, and Nika Markovic on the All Region team as well.
