Against the Odds: Pitt a slight favorite against Florida State

NCAA Football: Pittsburgh at Boston College Paul Rutherford-USA TODAY Sports

Pitt hasn’t won a game in more than a month but the Panthers still are picked to win this weekend on the road at Florida State.

The Panthers opened as a minor 2 1/2-point favorite against the Seminoles but by late Sunday, there was already movement on that with some books calling it even and others having Pitt has a 1 1/2-point favorite. That’s hardly a big number but for a team that is on a major losing streak playing on the road, it tells you what oddsmakers think of the 2-4 Seminoles.

If I’m a gambler looking at this game, I don’t know what you do, frankly. Will Pitt even have starting quarterback Kenny Pickett? Head coach Pat Narduzzi sounded kind of pessimistic about that last week. But when the game kicks off, Pickett will have also had a few weeks off to recover from the leg injury plaguing him. Even if Pickett does play, though, who knows how effective he will be? And if he’s not playing, is Pitt still the favorite?

You hear about games to stay away from as a gambler and this seems like it could be one of those. What do you think about this week’s spread?
