In a back-and-forth battle that saw The Money Team lead by as many as 16 points, Herd That was forced to continually claw its way back into the game. That pattern continued into the Elam Ending portion of the game late in the fourth quarter, which began with Herd That trailing The Money Team 93-84.
During the Elam Ending, in which the first team to 101 points would be declared the winner, The Money Team faltered, coming up with just six points and failing to seize a victory that was just two points away. The game could have been won by The Money Team on a pair of free throws awarded to West Virginia alum Devin Williams. However, he missed both, keeping the door open for Herd That.
Herd That regained possession with a 100-99 lead, and Marshall alum Jon Elmore found Luther at the top of the key with a bounce pass. The 6'9" power forward then drove down the lane and popped a layup over the head of 7’0” center Thomas Welsh to cap off a 7-0 run and give Herd That a 102-99 comeback win.
The former Panther finished fourth on the team in scoring, with nine points to go with six rebounds and one assist in 17 minutes of action. And thanks to his clutch performance, Herd That will advance to the quarterfinals of The Basketball Tournament to face the winner of Overseas Elite and Armored Athlete.
