If you're a regular follower of the Pitt blogs out there, you're no doubt familiar with Chas and Pitt Blather. In all fairness, I should have probably gotten a mention of this up sooner, but this site is generally behind the 8-ball on these sorts of things. Chas in a contest with Volvo for one of the top Big East fans. A recent post on his site reminded me of this and you can help by going to vote for him here.
Despite all of Pitt's troubles, at this point, Joe Lunardi of ESPN.com, who is fairly accurate in his bracketology, projects Pitt to be a 10 seed facing 7th-seeded St. Mary's in Nashville. Let's hope that the team lives up to that.
Formerly the head coach at Mt. Lebanon High School, Haering is considered a tough, no nonsense coach. Sounds like Chryst. His hire should also help with local recruiting. Haering played college ball at WVU, where he was named 3rd team All-American at LB in 1989.
Meant to throw this out there before, but as I mentioned, I do a weekly column over at Fathead's official blog. The past four have revolved around picking all 35 of college football's bowl games. Up until now, I'm 7-4. You can head here to see my picks for the entire season.
Want to lead the Big Ten in rushing? Bob Bostad teaches how to not only run, but block as well. He should show this video to the offensive line, they might pick something up.
Here's a good piece on Paul Chryst and recruiting from SB Nation's mothership.
In a turn of events (if it's true, of course), Wisconsin offensive coordinator Paul Chryst is now expected to be named Pitt's next head coach according to Paul Zeise and the Post-Gazette assuming the two sides can reach an agreement. FIU's Mario Cristobal was the name that came up the most recently, but it's looking like (for now) that it could be Chryst. More on this tonight.
"His wrist and hands were banged up," Zanna said. "He banged it like three times in a row. There was a lot of pain. He couldn't sustain the pain so he just had to cry. I don't even know if I would say it was crying, but if you looked at his face it looked like he was crying. This program might have been too tough for him. I think that's why he left." Power forward Talib Zanna on Khem Birch
Source: Pittsburgh Post-GazetteBirch told CBSSports he's leaving Pitt. Best of luck to Khem in the future. A shame he didn't work out.
Rhoads today signed a 10-year contract worth $20 million. So I think it's safe to say Rhoads won't be returning to Pittsburgh.
