Pitt football recruiting: Paul Chryst in middle of pack in ACC

Charles LeClaire-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

With Pitt struggling a bit on the field, I wanted to take a look and see where Pitt stood in the recruiting rankings so far for 2013. As of this weekend, Scout (Now FoxSportsNext, by the way) ranks Pitt's class (well, okay, their verbal commitments to date) 38th in the nation. Rivals has them one spot up at No. 37 overall.

When it comes to comparing them against the ACC, they're right near the middle of the pack. Both sites say that Pitt would be 7th in the ACC.

Based on what we've seen this year on the field, it's hard to be too disappointed with that. Pitt is really recruiting right now based on tradition, facilities, and future under Paul Chryst. At 2-3 with some ugly losses, the Panthers aren't doing themselves any favors with their play on the field. But there's still plenty of time and if Pitt is able to land some of the big fish still out there, including offensive lineman Dorian Johnson, things will be looking up.
