We've all been over the fact that Pitt football might be flying under the radar a bit. But what about the basketball team? After a down season last year, the Panthers are a bit out of the national spotlight. But NBC Sports says they could be a team that surprises folks.

Specifically, NBC Sports names Pitt as one of their five teams under the radar this season:

Pittsburgh: There is no way that a Jamie Dixon coached team puts together another season as ugly as 2011-2012 was for the Panthers. Losing Ashton Gibbs and Nasir Robinson hurts, but with Tray Woodall coming back healthy, a solid core of young players returning and a talent like Steven Adams entering the program, Pitt should once again be relevant in their final season as a member of the Big East.

The basketball team probably isn't under the radar as much as the football team. With so much success in the past ten years, Pitt basketball is still recognized as a pretty good hoops brand. But they definitely lost at least a little bit by missing the tournament last season, proving they're not fully immune to a down season.

This team will go under the radar a bit, but I expect them to be a pretty good team. By the time the Big East season rolls around, I'd be surprised if they're not gaining some recognition. I'd been a bit skeptical if they could turn things around this year with still a pretty young team, but the addition of Trey Zeigler makes me feel more confident they'll turn it around.
