The NBA Draft came and went Thursday night and Pitt's Ashton Gibbs (as expected) wasn't selected. He'll now head into the pool of undrafted players and try to catch on with a team.
The fact that Gibbs wasn't taken wasn't a huge surprise. From what I could find, he only surfaced in one mock draft. While that's not the end-all-be-all, obviously, it didn't bode well for his chances. One player of note that also wasn't taken was Kevin Jones. Jones' agent supposedly had a guarantee that his client would not only be selected, but in the first-round if he fell that far. Those kinds of promises fall through all the time, so it wasn't a huge surprise he wasn't selected there. But I was a bit shocked that no team took a flyer on him late.
The silver lining for both players is that it's generally better to be a free agent than taken late as you can pick your own destination and find a situation that fits.
