Former Pitt quarterback John Congemi likes new recruit Wade Freebeck

Jeff Hanisch-US PRESSWIRE

A few weeks ago, Pitt landed a quarterback recruit - Wade Freebeck out of Florida.

He recently attended a passing academy where former Pitt quarterback John Congemi has been serving as an instructor, per an article from the Trib-Review. Congemi had good things to say about him:

“He has the skill set to be able to play college football at the highest level,” Congemi said. “He's an intelligent kid and a hard worker, which is something you're looking to find (in quarterbacks).”

The big thing for Freeback, as we mentioned in our initial write-up, is that he'll be transferring to another school in Florida and playing at a much higher level. If he posts similarly good numbers there as he did previously at St. Thomas, that would be a really positive thing. And if you're concerned that another school could come after Freebeck, he says don't be:

“I am solid (toward Pitt),” he said. “I took my time and did my diligence with research, finding out the best place. I'm definitely shutting it down.”

Adding a quarterback for 2014 was necessary. The status of incoming freshman Tra'Von Chapman is still unknown after his recent troubles and the Panthers later found out that they lost in the Keller Chryst sweepstakes.

Pitt added Freebeck and also another quarterback out of Ohio, Adam Berte and if nothing else, has some depth at the position.
