Despite a big win over No. 15 Duke on Sunday, the Pitt basketball team still finds themselves on the outside looking in when it comes to the Top 25 college basketball polls.
In the latest polls released, the Panthers are still a ways off from being back in the Top 25. The Panthers are No. 31 in the USA Today Coaches Poll with the sixth highest school in the Others Receiving Votes category. If you think that's bad, Pitt is still not even getting any votes in the AP Media Poll. That poll includes a total of 38 teams either in the Top 25 or receiving votes.
The Panthers not being in the Top 25 isn't that disappointing. They also lost to Louisville earlier in the week and to get back into the Top 25 in either poll would have been a big jump. However, it is frustrating when you look at some of the teams in the media poll that are slotted higher than Pitt. 22-6 Dayton doesn't have as impressive a win as Pitt's victory against Duke and despite losing three of their last four to the likes of St. Joe's, St. Bonaventure, and Rhode Island, they still managed to pick up a point in the poll. Valparaiso is ahead of Pitt, too, and despite a 26-5 record, they haven't beaten anyone of consequence and have losses to Wright State (twice), Ball State, and Belmont.
But, hey, as long as Pitt keeps winning, that's the most important thing here.
