I sent this earlier in the week to Mr. Ferris and the rest of the Pitt marketing team.
Mr. Ferris,
My name is Mark Warady and I am lifelong Pitt fan.
I applaud you and your team's decision to bring back the Pitt Script.
It is a mark of distinction that stands out and provides an identity for Pitt athletics.
It is also tradition, as Dan Marino stated earlier this week.
This leads me into my next topic.
We live in a generation where scholar athletes are either attracted to the glitz and glamour (Oregon, Boise State, etc)
or tradition (Alabama, Penn State, etc).
Pitt does not fall into either of these categories.
Over the last 20 years Pittsburgh has changed their logo, colors, and Pitt to Pittsburgh, back to Pitt, and now back to the Pitt script.
When watching a football game on Saturday, I have to look at the score box to make sure that Pitt is playing and not Navy or Notre Dame.
I have a solution that will not only bring back tradition, but also add a little glitz and glamour. Both relate directly to today's college recruit.
Here's my proposal:
Bring back the colors of the 70's and 80's (Successful teams and tradition) and add some pop to make it appealing to recruits and fans.
I constantly hear fans wanting to bring back the old colors of when Pitt was IT.
Reinstating the Pitts Script does not provide enough impact to gain the attention of potential recruits.
It also will not contribute to a large enough impact on merchandise sales.
You have to go all in!
Below are images of my proposed direction[ in which I believe] Pitt should move forward.
Thank you for your time.
Your thoughts,
Mark
