Against the Odds: Pitt an underdog to Virginia Tech

NCAA Football: Pittsburgh at Virginia Tech Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

Pitt faces Virginia Tech on Saturday and both teams enter the game with a bit of an up and down year at 4-4. But despite the fact that it’s a home game for the Panthers, they will likely enter the game as a slight underdog.

The line opened with the Panthers as a two-point underdog and that line has since moved slightly to 3-3 12 points in most places.

That doesn’t seem crazy And honestly, you can probably make the argument for a slightly larger spread. The Hokies beat both NC State and Boston College handily — teams that the Panthers lost admittedly close games against. Virginia Tech also narrowly defeated Miami last time out, losing by a single point.

The Panthers, quite clearly, can win this game, as I wrote in the preview. But seeing the Hokies favored here isn’t a big surprise.
