Pitt’s Jamarius Burton named national player of the week

Burton’s 31 point outburst for Pipropels him to the national stage

December may be over, but it seems the holiday season had one more gift to give the Pittsburgh Panthers. Following a 31-point display in the Panthers’ win over UNC, Jamarius Burton was selected by Andy Katz as his national player of the week.

Burton was a major factor in Pitt’s biggest win of the last few seasons, shooting a remarkable 14-17 from the field, while also gathering six rebounds and adding an assist against the Tar Heels. The 31 points Burton got against UNC have given him double figures in 11 of the last 12 games he has played.

Burton on the year is averaging 15 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. It is a slight bump in his numbers to last season and an important factor in this resurgence in the Pittsburgh Panthers program.

With the win over the Tar Heels, the Panthers move to 3-0 in ACC play to start the season and 10-4 overall. The 3-0 start in conference play is the best since the 2015-26 season. The upcoming schedule will test how battle-ready the Panthers are. Pitt takes on #13 Virginia (10-2, 2-1 ACC) tomorrow at 9:00 PM eastern time.
