To date, Paul Chryst has had two of his very own recruiting classes with 2013 and 2014. The 2012 class was his as well, but he was hired late and didn't have a full year to go on the recruiting trail. When you look back at those last two classes, something becomes apparent: Paul Chryst loves June and early July with regards to recruiting. It makes sense as the coaching staff is on the road visiting kids and gearing up for the start of training camp coming at the end of July and early August.
We remember the chaos of last season when June rolled around and Pitt seemed to have a new commit daily - three even came in one night. I did a little research and was able to confirm the team's success a bit.
2013 Recruiting Class - 33% of Pitt's recruiting class committed between June 11th (Tony Harper) and July 3rd (Chris Blewitt). The stampede went from the 11th until the 28th when the Panthers landed Carson Baker and Tra'von Chapman on the same day. A few days of quiet ended after that when Blewitt pulled the trigger the day before the July 4th holiday. That made a total of eight commits out of 27 that said, "Pitt is It" in a pretty short time span. Not many people thought much of it, but it was a sign of things to come when last year may have shown that the coaching staff just really likes this time of year.
2014 Recruiting Class - 52% of Pitt's class this past year called up Paul Chryst and committed to the Panthers. The parade to Oakland began on June 14th this time with Jalen Williams and did not end until Brian O'Neil made the call on June 22nd. We then had the same little quiet time that 2013 showed, until Elijah Zeise followed the same path as Blewitt and selected the Panthers on July 3rd. That makes 12 total players from last year's class that committed to the school around the same time frame.
Taking the two years combined, 40% of Paul Chryst's recruiting class is committed somewhere from around the middle of June to the first week in July. It's no guarantee to happen again this year, but if the last two years have been any indication, things could get pretty busy once we hit June.
