Pitt Basketball Recruiting: Omar Calhoun Waiting On UConn Coach Jim Calhoun

Super recruit Omar Calhoun, who is considering Pitt among other schools, is waiting to see if UConn head coach Jim Calhoun will be back next season. If he's not, could he be Pitt bound?

Star-divide

His father confirmed that Jim Calhoun's decision would weigh into Omar's choice:

"It would weigh into it a little bit for his decision," responded Omar Calhoun Sr. when asked if Jim Calhoun’s potential retirement would affect his son’s college plans. "We believe in UCONN and it’s still going to be UCONN. We still feel like Coach Calhoun is still going to have a major part still in the development in the program even if he’s not the head coach. We believe he’ll still have some type of representation on how these guys represent themselves."

Omar Calhoun Sr. said his son plans to take a visit to Storrs in the next couple weeks, as that’ll be his only visit as the busy live period will get underway early in July.

"We’re going to try and set up a visit in the next couple weeks to UCONN." Calhoun Sr. also added that, "for the live period that’s the only visit we’re trying to set up."

That, of course, should surprise no one. Very few (if any) kids, especially on the level of Omar Calhoun, would commit to a school without knowing who the coach is.

It sounds like UConn is the frontrunner and I do expect coach Calhoun to be back. But if he's not, that could really help Pitt.
