Pitt basketball head coach Jamie Dixon, along with football coach Todd Graham, has been making the rounds at appearances. Dixon's next gig? Speaking at the annual Basketball Coaches Clinic at Wheeling Jesuit.
And Merrick and Sancomb just don't pick the coaches at random.
''We have a group of six guys that are strong-willed, aggressive speakers that play aggressive, hard-nosed basketball,'' Merrick pointed out.
Sancomb referred to his fellow coaches as ''great teachers.''
''When we started, it was a one-man clinic,'' Sancomb recalled. ''It's a wonderful opportunity for our region to get some great tips on how to coach a team.
''At the end of the day, it will make our high school coaches in the area just a little bit more knowledgeable.''
Former Pitt assistant and current Rutgers coach Mike Rice will be there as well. Dixon is one of six speakers at the September 25 event. There will also be some prep and high school games as a part of the clinic as well.
