Pitt Football: Lucas Nix Charged In 'Incident'; Bowl Status Unclear

So with the football season wrapping up, a disgusting basketball loss to a perennial bottom feeder, and it being 10:00 p.m. and all, I really didn't want any more news tonight.

But in checking around, I found this nugget from Paul Zeise of the PG - Lucas Nix was charged with a few offenses over the holidays and his status for the bowl game is in question.

Zeise says Nix was charged with three things:

Lucas Nix was charged with three summary offenses - public drunkeness, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.

The incident took place in Pleasant Hills Borough on Dec. 26.

Zeise then did some digging and found out the real scoop. I'm not going through the whole story, but it just sounds like for the most part, he was involved in a fight with some West Virginia players he knew from high school (go figure) and alcohol may have been involved. His brother, Nate, a former Pitt player, was also involved.

Interim coach Keith Patterson issued a statement:

"I was informed tonight of an incident involving Lucas Nix during the holiday break. Before any determination is made on his status for Saturday’s bowl game, I want to make sure I have all the necessary information about the occurrence to make the right decision. Lucas was not arrested and just learned of these summary charges tonight."

Definitely read the whole thing for yourself, though.

Man, if there's one thing that can ruin Pitt's chances of winning a bowl game against a mediocre SMU team, it's the weakening of an already-thin offensive line. The fact that Nix is probably the team's best lineman goes without saying and if he's not in there on Saturday, that's not a good thing for Pitt.
