Some college basketball odds were released last week (via CBS Sports) and based on where Pitt ranked, Vegas thinks the Panthers have a chance to do something special. Even though Pitt wasn't ranked in the college basketball preseason coaches' poll last week, the Panthers had the 18th best odds according to the article - 45:1.
The Panthers winning a National Championship isn't something I'd recommend to you as a safe bet. But I expect the team to have a good deal of firepower offensively and, as we've seen, the best team doesn't always win the title.
Indiana came in as the odds on favorite, with 6:1 odds. Defending champion Kentucky was second at 7:1. Louisville, the highest-ranked Big East team, came in at third just behind them at 8:1. Syracuse was the only other conference team ahead of Pitt with 20:1 odds. And just for fun, UNLV and former Pitt player Khem Birch came in just ahead of the Panthers at 30:1.
