Pitt Football Recruiting: National Signing Day Upon Us - Open Thread

College football's National Signing Day is upon us. We'll have updates later on, but here is an open thread to leave comments on Pitt's recruiting class which will/should include Chad Voytik, Rushel Shell,J.P. Holtz, and a host of others - hopefully Deaysean Rippy is in that bunch.

All in all, Paul Chryst has done a decent job in keeping the class intact. Sure, there have been some casualties, but that's to be expected in almost any situation where there's a coaching change ... particularly one where the coaches' offensive styles vary so significantly.

Pitt should come out of this with some big-time players as well as some under-the-radar kids. All things included, I think most of us would be happy with that. Todd Graham, for all his faults, did a good job scrambling last year, but fortunately, Chryst hasn't had to do that.

What are your thoughts on the class and Pitt's situation with Chryst heading into the Spring?

Update on Rippy

According to Chris Peak on Pantherlair, Rippy would have signed elsewhere if Fraud was still coach. Good things do happen because of Fraud

Good Things are Happening...........

…….. at PITT, but the proof will be the last-minute recruits Coach Cryst snags for us. I have high hopes for him and his staff……….

I think what we should expect from today

Is that Pitt will probably sign around 16 or so prospects. From what I’ve seen, Chryst is not taking any chances on anyone who may not qualify academically, whereas Fraud secured commits from a bunch of them. Pitt only graduated 15 players and we were under the allotted 85 scholarships this year already. Look for Pitt to secure a big class next season, especially with the number of blue chip recruits in PA and OH next year

Terrell Jackson

Signed with Pitt. Played a little trick on everyone when he lined up hats from Cincy, Illinois, and Michigan State on the table. But pulled Pitt hat out from under and signed with the Panthers. That puts Pitt at 15 signed

Also

Pitt lost a few more names. Adam Pankey (unfortunately) signed with WVU and Alkwan Williams is heading to Temple

Pankey was a loss

Cause of the numbers we have on the OL.

We need to hit the OL recruiting hard for 2013. Kugler obviously the top target

We're waiting on the letters from two more verbals

Tyrique Jarrett and Ryan Lewis. Outside of those two, I think Pitt is done with this year’s class.

Overall

Great job by Paul Chryst. As you said, whenever you have an offensive philosophy change like this, you are going to have some drop-outs, but all-in-all, he did as good of a job as he could keeping the class together. The important thing is that he kept Shell and Voytik, and just keeping those 2 guys - by itself - is a major accomplishment. I have a feeling those 2 guys are going to be stars for Pitt.

One thing

Just a reminder to everyone that these guys are 17-18 years old. Please be an adult if they don’t pick Pitt. It’s alright to be disappointed, but please don’t attack them on, say, Twitter, as this fan does.*

*The fact that this fan happens to be a WVU fan may or may not be why I’m posting this

Ryan Lewis has signed

Jarrett will not be signing today. So with that we are done for today. We’ll have a post up once Chryst speaks later this afternoon, but feel free to discuss the class here.

One more thing. Anthony Standifer, a CB out of Illinois, will wait to sign after Signing Day as well. He will take an official visit to Pitt in the next week or so.

Thanks

I missed it, but sure there will be plenty more Chryst in the coming days.
