ESPN Ranks Pitt 2012 Class 13th Nationally

With the spring signing period here for 2012, ESPN updated their recruiting class rankings on Wednesday. As of then, the Panthers ranked 13th in the nation with Steven Adams, James Robinson, and Chris Jones. Even so, it still wasn't enough to get them into Andy Katz' preseason top 25.

Mix in the fact that Pitt has transfer Trey Zeigler coming in and this team has the makings of a great team in two years - especially if Adams somehow sticks around for two years.

In two years

It has the potential to be even better than the 2008 or 2011 teams both of which got a #1 seed. I see 3 potential first round draft picks in Adams, Robinson, and Zeigler. However, I am also a little tepid, because we have seen how Dixon has missed on some of his past big-time recruits. Most notably Dante Taylor and Khem Birch.

You just don’t know until things play out how good this class will actually be, but it’s exciting that Pitt is ranked #13!

Recruiting

I hear you on the recruiting. But I’d replace Birch with Epps. Epps was a pretty highly-touted guy who didn’t even make it past his first year of playing. Birch didn’t either, but he was playing fairly well when he left. His attitude hurt things, but I don’t know that Dixon missed on him just because it didn’t work out. He certainly didn’t miss on him regarding his talent, anyway.

I get your point, though.
