As the No. 13 ranked team in the nation, Pitt's wrestlers scored a huge victory last week against Oklahoma State. That win meant the team should have gotten a boost in the rankings, and they did - moving up to No. 8 in the NCAA's weekly rankings.
The Panthers are 10-1 on the year and their only loss of the season was against top-ranked Penn State.
To be honest, you can actually say the team could even be under-ranked a bit. Other than No. 10 Nebraska, Pitt is the lowest of the undefeated or one-loss teams out there. Even Oklahoma State, who they just beat and is only 4-4, is breathing down their neck at No. 9. As I said before, though, the Cowboys have faced a killer schedule to date and all of their losses are to teams that are all in the top ten right now.
The Panthers will have another chance to earn a little more respect, though, when they face the new No. 13 Virginia Cavaliers on Friday night at the Field House. If they can manage to win that, it will be interesting to see if they get a bump up.
Another quick note, too - heavyweight P.J. Tasser was named ACC wrestler of the week after his big win against No. 14 Austin Marsden.
