Featured Fanpost: Breaking down the recruiting trend

The following post was written by a reader - not the staff of Cardiac Hill.

There is a little over two weeks left until signing day. With all the information out there on all the recruiting sites, it seems as though more and more people are becoming engaged with the process. The ups, the downs, the suspense. This one was a particularly interesting one with so many high level recruits in the Wpial. People seemed to be angry that we missed out on so many, especially Wade and Jeter. So with this, I figured I would try to reflect a little on where our recruiting has been, is and where it might be going.

Keep in mind that Narduzzi closed out one recruiting class very late and basically was just able to hold onto Paul C's recruits while cashing in some Pitt leans along with last year and this year. The gold standard for recruiting is elite 4 and 5 star prospects. So lets do a little run down of just how many 4 and 5 star prospects(ranked by any site, doesn't have to be a consensus) they have gotten over the years.

2011 3

2012 4 (three of which transferred out)

2013 3(one was arrested and never made it)

2014 4(two transferred out)

2015 2

2016 8

2017 5 so far with the chance to pick up 3 more along with possibly some making the jump in stars

Then you add in that Narduzzi pulled 4 transfers who were either 4 or 5 stars.

So when Narduzzi took the field for the first time he had 10 of these elite prospects on the field.

Next year, Narduzzi will have at least 18-21.

If he continues to recruit the way he has, by his fourth full recruiting class, he will have somewhere in the neighborhood of 30.

There is a lot of gray area when it comes to the recruiting sites and what ultimately could happen, but it really isn't debatable that Narduzzi is bringing in talent like we haven't had since they started giving out stars.

Lets not worry so much about the players we missed out on, lets focus on who we have and where we are going. This team is settling in as a perennial top 25 team in a more competitive conference than we were in with the Big east. I for one am excited to see what is next and I think we might end this recruiting cycle with a big smile on everyone's faces.
