Pitt volleyball sweeps Clemson and Georgia Tech on road

Kayla Lund 2017 Volleyball

Pitt’s volleyball team continued its steamrolling of the ACC with two more easy victories this weekend. The Panthers picked up two more sweeps, defeating both Clemson and Georgia Tech.

Both matches were on the road and that gives Pitt seven wins in a row.

The Panthers did play some close sets despite sweeping both opponents. Pitt handled Clemson pretty easily, but all three sets against Georgia Tech were relatively tight. The Panthers won that match, 25-22, 25-20, and 25-21.

Outside hitter Stephanie Williams had a really great weekend. She led the team in kills and aces in both matches and I thought was really impressive.

The wins keep Pitt tied for the lead in the ACC but they’ll need some help to win the conference. NC State lost a head to head match with Louisville so it’s now the Panthers and Cardinals tied for first place. But Louisville defeated Pitt head to head and the Panthers will need them to lose one of their remaining two matches against Boston College and Syracuse on the road.

Louisville should win both of those but they also nearly lost to North Carolina on Sunday as the Tar Heels took them to five sets. Syracuse, in particular, is a decent test. They’re 19-12 on the year and could give the Cardinals some trouble.

Pitt ends the regular season next weekend against Virginia and Virginia Tech on the road.
