Pitt had its annual team banquet and handed out its annual awards. Nearly everyone on the team received one - including the coach, Jamie Dixon.
I've never made it to one of these, but seriously thought about going this year. Then I came to my senses and realized if I purchased a ticket, I'd only regret having to drag myself out of the house. Dixon received the Sporting News' Coach of the Year Award from writer Mike DeCourcey, who was on hand to present it. And when it came to the player awards, just about everyone received one.
Ashton Gibbs and Brad Wanamaker took home team MVP honors.
Hard to argue with that vote - if I had to pick just one, I'd go with Gibbs, but no problem at all with making it a co-award.Nasir Robinson was named the team's Defensive Player of the Year and Lamar Patterson and Talib Zanna both took home the Most Improved Player award.
