Dick Vitale released what looks to be his version of All-American teams - five of them, to be exact and they're called the "All Solid Gold Teams." He calls these the best players in college basketball for this season.
Pitt's Ashton Gibbs was a first-team guard on Vitale's squad. He was joined by Wisconsin's Jordan Taylor, Ohio State's Jared Sullinger, Kentucky's Terrence Jones, and North Carolina's Harrison Barnes.
Gibbs could easily contend for first-team All-American status, though Xavier's Tu Holloway will probably have something to say about that. Another thing working against Gibbs may be the fact that the All-American teams aren't evenly balanced. He may be one of the best guards in the country, but if there are more talented frontcourt players, they could fill the first-team and leave off backcourt players such as Gibbs.
Is Ashton one of the best guards in country? Yes. One of the five best players? I'm not so sure.
