Cam Saddler makes trip to BBVA Compass Bowl with Pitt

Charles LeClaire-US PRESSWIRE

Pitt lost a player for the BBVA Compass Bowl game against Ole Miss when it was announced that offensive lineman Arthur Doakes was suspended. But the Panthers will apparently get one back:

Wide receiver Cam Saddler, who was suspended for the South Florida game Dec. 1, has been practicing and will travel with the team to the Compass Bowl.

Saddler was suspended for the South Florida game and while his status for the bowl trip was once in question, it sounds as if he'll be playing. The Trib article doesn't specifically state he'll play, but if he made the trip to Birmingham, that would seem to indicate he'll be available and will suit up.

That's not only good news for Pitt's depth at wide receiver, but it's nice to hear Saddler will get a chance to end his career on the field. As a senior, it would have been tough to miss not only the last game of the regular season, but the bowl game. Saddler hasn't been a great player on offense for Pitt, but he's more than capable of coming up with a big play. The team is certainly better off now that he's apparently; eligible to play.
