Jordan Whitehead named to Sporting News Freshman All-American Team

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

The regular season has been over for Pitt for a while now and true freshman Jordan Whitehead continues to add accolades for his work this year. This week, he was named to The Sporting News' Freshman All-American Team.

Whitehead was previously named to the USA Today All-American Team. He was also the ACC's Defensive Rookie of the Year as well as the Conference's Overall Rookie of the Year. In addition, he was also honored on the ACC's All-Conference Third Team.

As a true freshman, Whitehead not only started for the Panthers at safety but was also the team's leading tackler. He also joined the offense late in the year as a running back, scoring a few touchdowns in the process. Defensively, he added an interception and a half-sack to his totals.

It goes without saying that he should be one of the playmakers on the defense for at least two more seasons. Like the rest of the team, Whitehead will get one more shot to impress when Pitt faces Navy in the Military Bowl.
