Pitt's wrestling team has gone somewhat under the radar this year, staying mostly out of the Top 25 discussion. The year looked to be a rebuild of sorts with the team losing stars Max Thomusseit and national runner-up Tyler Wilps last year. However, this weekend the Panthers proved they shouldn't be taken lightly.
Pitt defeated both Edinboro and, more importantly, No. 15 Wisconsin in home duals this weekend. That was enough to earn the Panthers a spot back in college wrestling's Top 25. Pitt went from unranked (27th) all the way up to No. 20 this week. The Badgers fell past Pitt and out of the rankings after losing two straight to the Panthers and then Penn State.
The Panthers still have a lot of work to do this season. The ACC competition hasn't even begun yet as Pitt hopes to contend for another conference title despite four ACC teams being ranked ahead of them. But so far, with a 5-1 dual record and a tournament win under their belts, the Panthers are off to a solid start this season.
