Pitt Basketball Recruiting: Maverick Rowan still without announced favorites

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Ever since Maverick Rowan decommited from Pitt, I've been trying to keep tabs (somewhat, anyway) on him. I don't expect him to wind up with the Panthers and it's hard to imagine he'd choose them again with so many schools pursuing him so hard, but there's always a chance.

Rowan still doesn't have any announced favorites. Heck, he's not even willing to trim his list of suitors:

Because of he has developed skill across many facets of the game, Rowan has picked up offers from Florida, Iowa State, Louisville, North Carolina, NC State, Pittsburgh, UCLA, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. However, he’s not ready to reveal a top list, or name schools that are recruiting him the hardest.

"Everyone I think followed me pretty close in April," he said. "I don’t think there was any specific school (that stuck out). Pretty much everyone is after me the hardest. They’re all trying to get me to cut my list down.

There was talk about Rowan reclassifying as early as this year, but if you read the rest of the article, it doesn't seem like that's possible. As mentioned above, he hasn't even trimmed his list and he goes on to talk about making visits over the fall and winter.

Then there was this:

The most important factor in his decision will be playing time.

"I’m not going to go to a place where I’m not going to play right away," he said, "and that’s just the bottom line."

That would seem to play into Pitt's favor a little. James Robinson will be gone after this season and while we don't know who the Panthers will bring in for 2016, Pitt will be looking for backcourt help to go along with Damon Wilson. Still, it's hard to see him coming back to Pitt since he decommitted. FWIW, Crystal Ball predicts him going to Louisville and cool on several schools, including Pitt.
