Oddsmakers not expecting much from Pitt football in 2015

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Despite an offense featuring surefire NFL pros James Conner and Tyler Boyd, Pitt football remains a tough sell in the eyes of many. Oddsmakers, for one, aren't taking the Panthers all that seriously right now.

Pitt isn't among the favorites to win their conference and are buried in the list of teams contending to win a national championship. That the Panthers are 500:1 underdogs (per odds by Bovada released last week) to win it all isn't surprising. But in that regard, they share company with the likes of Boston College, Northwestern, and others. Then again, that's pretty much what you get when you finish 6-6 for four consecutive seasons.

A more realistic goal, the conference championship, seems more reasonable to the oddsmakers. At 12:1, the Panthers are tied for the sixth best odds in the ACC to win their league. Considering they were actually picked them near the bottom of their division at the ACC media days, that's actually a step up.

In case you were wondering, Ohio State leads the way in the national championship odds at 7:4 and Clemson is picked at 2:1 to win the ACC.
