Shortly after being ousted by Florida State in the ACC Softball Tournament a while back as the conference's No. 8 seed, three Pitt softball players were named to All-ACC teams. This week, the Panthers also had three more players honored, making National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Mid-Atlantic All-Region squads.
No Pitt players made the first team, but senior Maggie Sevilla and sophomore Giorgiana Zeremenko made the second team. Sophomore McKayla Taylor was named to the third team.
Sevilla was the only one previously named to an All ACC team. Other All ACC team members Jenna Modic and Erin Hershman were left out here. One nice thing to see was Zeremenko make an All-Region team after she was bypassed for All-ACC recognition. She led the team with a school-record 17 home runs, and also topped the Panthers in several other categories, including runs batted in, batting average, total bases, and slugging percentage.
NFCA All-American teams will be announced next month on June 1.
