The Portal Prowl: Donovan McMillon comes home to Pitt

It has been a busy week in the portal for the Pitt Panthers

NCAA Football: Alabama at Florida Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The Pittsburgh Panthers continue to be active in the transfer portal and now have another player that has committed to play for the Pitt. Safety Donovan McMillion has decided to transfer to Pitt from the University of Florida. McMillion is a WPIAL four-star player from the class of 2021.

McMillon is a hard-hitting safety that thrives in the box. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound McMillon can get downhill in a hurry and stuff the run where he plays at his peak. The former WPIAL star will still need to refine his ability to play in coverage, as his 54.4 and 40.2 PFF coverage grades in limited snaps are both well below average.

What McMillon was also able to bring at a high level to the Gators was his ability to play special teams. McMillon continued to make flash plays as a gunner and was able to showcase his hard-hitting abilities.

With now both McMillon and Jurkovec deciding to return home to where they played high school football, look for Pitt to continue to work the portal to bring these local athletes back home. Let’s take a look at some of the other players Pitt has shown new interest in around the portal.

YulKeith Brown, Wide Reciever

The former four-star wide receiver is looking to transfer out of Texas A&M and received a visit from Pitt over the week.

While no official offer has been made as of yet, the Panthers continue to do extensive work at the wide receiver position in the portal. Brown spent two seasons with the Aggies and the 5’10, 175-pound receiver had 6 receptions for 112 yards and a TD in 2022. Brown would bring a deep threat to the Panthers as a former track star with deep speed.

Cane Berrong, Tight End

The Panthers continue their work for pass catchers in the transfer portal, extending an offer to former Notre Dame tight end Cane Berrong.

This is the third tight end that Pitt has extended an offer to at the position. Tanner Arkin from Colorado State who committed to Illinois already and Indiana’s A.J. Barner.

Jayden Higgins, Wide Receiver

The Panthers will continue to be in on most wide receivers in the transfer portal and offered Higgins out of Eastern Kentucky. Higgins is a big-bodied receiver at 6’4 and had 58 catches, 757-yard, and 10 touchdowns this past season.

Higgins has also received offers from Mississippi State, Iowa State, Virginia, Tulane, Middle Tennessee State, Troy, and Minnesota. Higgins has already made his first official visit with Iowa State and the Cyclones continue to be one of the teams most involved with Higgins.
