CBS Sportsline Blog Poll Week 3

Here is my Week 3 blog poll for CBSSportsline.com. I know it's early (REAL early), but the pieces are in place for a 'mid-major' team to really break things up in the BCS this year. Last year, Utah couldn't do it because they started too far out. However, with teams like BYU and Boise State already in the top 10, could this be the year someone busts up the BCS so badly that they actually make a title game?

BYU has three tough challenges (Florida State, Utah, and TCU), but they're all at home. After beating Oklahoma, if they somehow can run the table, they've got to be in the championship discussion.

Boise State has a MUCH easier path...their toughest remaining game may be this weekend at Fresno State. If they ran the table, I wouldn't have a problem leaving them out of the discussion. The schedule just isn't challenging enough in my opinion.

Again, way too early to even think about this, but it could get interesting...

What no Pitt in the top 25?

After their victories over YSU and Buffalo?

Just kidding, Pitt has played 2 very inferior opponents, I am curious to see the Navy game, Navy has to throw the ball to beat Pitt, and it should be an interesting game because Pitt’s secondary is the weakest link so far, the safeties are essentially useless and the corners are not physical enough to keep opposing receivers off balance.

Fields is athletically gifted but so far looks clueless, DeCicco looks even more clueless but he can’t tackle, Berry is an enigma and whoever plays the other corner is undersized and pedestrian.

Everyone is calling for Holley to play every down in the secondary, and will he be the answer to allow the secondary to settle down and gel?

When I read quotes from Wanny saying the secondary problems are technical and can be fixed I shudder because Rutgers exposed the secondary last year and it still has not been fixed.

This is still a team that still needs major work; I am not sold on the short "screen" pass oriented offense because sooner or later you have to throw the ball down the field and when we we throw the ball more than 20 yards downfield it is an adventure because arm strength and accuracy with our QB is an issue.

I am looking for a win this weekend, Pitt 31 Navy 21.

Agree or Disagree?

No, not yet for Pitt (to be in the Top 25). They've played well, but it's too early to tell right now. Plus, there are too many other teams playing well right now. If the Panthers can manage to get to 4-0, I'd imagine I'd find a spot for them.

My prediction will come later this week, but I'd say that's a reasonable score. I do expect Pitt to win, but Navy scores so many points, I think it will be fairly close if the defense plays as bad as they did last week.
