Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says that Pitt has been given 20:1 odds in Las Vegas to win the National Championship next season. That places Pitt in tenth place overall on the list behind North Carolina, Duke, Louisville, Ohio State, Syracuse, Kentucky, Texas, Florida, and Memphis. As you can see from that list, the Panthers are the third ranked Big East team. Personally, I think the majority of Pitt fans would settle for a Final Four next season, but that's an entirely different story.
North Carolina was the odds on favorite at 3:1. With so many teams in college basketball and the unpredictability of the NCAA Tournament that number seems extremely high to me. I'm a little surprised to see any team this early in the season favored that much. That just goes to show what kind of team the Tarheels are bringing back next season, led by Harrison Barnes.
