Upper St. Clair QB/OLB Commits To Pitt
Dakota Conwell, a 3 star prospect, committed to Pitt today. He's projected to play OLB at Pitt. He had offers from Maryland, Toledo, and Temple and was also being recruited by several Big Ten schools.

The quote from his coach
“I could probably build an argument that maybe he should’ve played this season and then see what transpires with colleges,” said Upper St. Clair coach Jim Render. “But he’s happy with Pitt, and if he’s happy with Pitt, I’m ecstatic.”
Maybe it was the way the question was worded, but it can be looked at in a few ways. First, he may feel that Conwell committed too early and may have stopped other schools from offering a scholarship. Or, perhaps Coach Render is unsure of how Todd Graham will do in his first season. Graham has only had a few months to make connections and try and sell his program to local prospects. Whatever the reason, the quote shouldn’t raise too much concern unless we start hearing this from more local coaches.

Sounds to me like a little of both
It always takes a while for new coaches to make inroads with the high school coaches in a big recruiting area like Western PA, but because Graham has a fairly unique offensive system, it’s especially true in his case.
After seeing what Graham was able to do with this year’s class, I thought that with a full year, he’d have a great one. But it’s pretty clear threre’s a ‘wait and see’ attitude out there and it might be until 2013 till Graham sees a great class…and that’s if he wins right away.

I like this pick-up
Conwell was drawing interest from some legitimate programs, unlike some of the other recent recruits. It’s always great to see players from good local high schools pick Pitt too.
