Pitt to the Big 12?
I give up. I can't stop talking about realignment. But this is by far one of the weirder spots for Pitt to end up. This was reported by Orangebloods.com, the site which first reported that the Pac-10 was targeting all the Texas and Oklahoma schools, which turned out to be true. Still, take it with a grain of salt.
UPDATE: Well, this apparently is true, according the Pete Thamel of the New York Times.

I don't see that happening...
…if Pitt ends up anywhere, it will be the Big 10, and that won’t happen for a while if ever. MAYBE Pitt and WVU will end up in the ACC, maybe.

Agreed
But I thought it was funny that Pitt would even be considered for the Big 12. I think the Big 12 would be the only AQ conference that Pitt would say no to if they were invited.

I agree. I think Pitt would be really taking an unnecessary risk with the Big 12. However, if Notre Dame was involved (even if the Big 12 was kissing their behind) maybe it would be OK.
On the other hand, other than playing Notre Dame in football every year, I don’t think they are a school that you would like to trust your future by being too closely involvd with them. They are too much “all for themselves” and don’t care much about any other school. I would not trust Notre Dame very much.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.

OMG in Heaven
I’m too old to say never anymore, so I don’t rule out Pitt to the Big 12. But its a lateral move, at best. Given the state of the Big 12, more of a step down. The Bundesliga would be a saner move.

Hard to believe
Only way it makes sense to me is if Big 12 can add several other teams and become a more stable situation.
More on this tomorrow morning.

If the Big XII could add Pitt...
…wouldn’t it make exponentially more sense for them to take TCU instead? This is never going to happen.
Ahhhh.....s@#t.

TCU
Would make more sense, but I’ve read that some Big 12 schools don’t really want them. Plus, they may feel that the Big East (believe it or not) could be more stable than the Big 12 with their new TV deal approaching.
It seems you hear more about the Big 12 not being able to survive these days than you do the Big East.

This doesn't strike me as something Pitt would/should be interested in either...
I’m not sure that you’re wrong about the Big East being more stable than the the Big XII, and it’s an awful fit. Pitt closest rival in that league would be (off the top of my head) Iowa State. People blasted Penn State in the Big Ten (which in retrospect winds up being pretty much genius) and more than half the B1G is closer to State College than Ames is to Pittsburgh.
Moreover, the division break up has Pitt missing Texas (definitely) and Oklahoma (probably), so the schedule is what? Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State and Missouri? That’s worse than the Big East. That’s before anybody even mentions basketball.
I’ve argued this before, Pitt and Syracuse were foolish and short sighted to not bust their collective asses to get in the ACC a few years ago.

About Pitt/Cuse in the ACC
If they could have gotten in, it’s looking that way.
