Pitt-IUP: Panthers sluggish in first half, lead 21-16

Pitt's season is underway (at least the preseason) and it's been a slow start for the Panthers. Facing IUP, Pitt has struggled so far and leads only 21-16.

The biggest problem is their shooting - the Panthers have made only 36% of their shots in the first half. 'Leading the way' are starting forwards Lamar Patterson and Talib Zanna - a combined 1-8.

Newcomer Steven Adams is getting his first taste of action and has four points and four rebounds. The big man also has a steal and two blocks at the break. On offense, teammates haven't been looking for him all that much and he's not gotten great position, to be honest. Going down into the post was a problem for Pitt before so we'll have to see how it plays out. You could argue the options in the paint weren't all that great before, but with one of the best freshmen big men in the Big East, there's little excuse to go to him a bit more often. To be fair, though, Adams' offense still needs plenty of work as evidenced by an airballed hook shot only a few feet from the basket.

Will follow-up later in the second half.
