Featured Reader Fanpost: UPitt Tailgating

I'm student in Pittsburgh from Virginia - I've been a Hokie fan since I was a kid. I'm addicted to college football and I've been looking to go to a Pitt game, so I figure the Sept 15th game against VT is a perfect time to do it.

That said, I don't know what the tailgating atmosphere is like for UPitt games. Could I get away with hoping around the lots in North Shore or should we rely on our own tailgate setup? I know that there's new development in North Shore that's putting a crunch on parking, so I'm worried about getting a spot.

Is pregaming in North Shore worth it? Would I be better off pregaming in Oakland or in bars before the game?

Anyways, I'm looking forward to a good game and can't wait to see y'all in the ACC.

Personally

I’ve preferred tailgating at the North Shore rather than in Oakland or at bars. It’s more of a gameday experience I suppose even though Heinz is off-campus. Most Pitt fans I’ve come across are friendly and accommodating and would likely let you tailgate with them. You’re not a West Virginia or Penn State fan so you’re already okay in our eyes.

That being said, parking is limited and prices are only bound to go up with the construction in the North Shore going on further limiting parking spots. It’s your call honestly, but I like tailgating in the North Shore.

If you can get a spot, and Tech might tough

The Pitt lots are like dodge city. Kegs, generators, underage drinking, the works. If it were me, I’d invest in a reserved pass and pack in. But there are other things to do there as well. It’s a pretty underrated tailgating experience.
