With all the excitement about Pitt football, I really haven't given Mike Haywood much thought since he rode off into the sunset. But where could he end up? Is his coaching career over?
Not likely.
Lost Letterman, a pretty cool website, has a quality look at Haywood and where he could surface next. But before he gets into coaching, there's a little matter of legal issues to take care of first:
So, what now?
According to the South Bend Tribune, Haywood agreed to enter a diversion program in February. The coach would have a felony battery charge – elevated because a minor was present – dropped if he behaves.
Assuming he gets things straighted out on that front, there are a few places he could land mentioned in the article. Notre Dame isn't likely to be one of those spots, but he should have at least a few options.
Another thing, obviously, that's working in his favor is his age. Haywood is fairly young and eventually should get another job - even if it's not a head coaching gig.
