Pitt (finally) cracks college basketball polls

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

For a while now, I've been berating poll voters and insisting that Pitt's basketball team should be in the Top 25. It only took a 15-1 start, but poll voters have finally wised up.

The Panthers entered the poll with several slots to spare in both polls. Pitt moved up to No. 21 in the Coaches Poll and No. 22 in the media poll. The media poll jump was a surprising one since last week, they ranked 30th in the same poll and moved up a total of eight spots there.

I'll listen all day long to the cries that Pitt's non-conference schedule hasn't been nearly difficult. What can't be ignored, though, is how the Panthers have dominated teams on their way to the 15-1 start. Only one of their wins was by single digits ... and that was a nine-point win against Penn State. Their only loss is to a now-ranked Cincinnati team by a single point. They're 3-0 in the ACC and have won those games by an average of 16 points. They beat Stanford and Texas Tech by more than 20 points each.

In other words, there's just no way that Pitt shouldn't be ranked at this point.
