Pitt Basketball Recruiting: Pitt target Cheick Diallo expected to announce decision this week

Andy Marlin-USA TODAY Sports

Pitt's basketball program has been on the trail for 2015 big man Cheick Diallo for some time now. Everything could finally come to a head this week as Diallo is expected to announce his college choice. As far as his intentions, everyone remains in the dark according to him:

"Nobody knows" where he is going to college, he said Friday night after the game.

The Panthers remain in the running for his services with Kentucky, St. John's, Kansas, and Iowa State.

As mentioned in that link from ZagsBlog, Diallo reportedly had a recent visit with Kansas' Bill Self and a second visit with St. John's. That St. John's visit included assistant Barry Rohrssen.

As an aside, Diallo continues to look impressive as he won the Jordan Brand Classic MVP award in the game on Friday. That came after he won the MVP at the McDonald's All-American game. He previously said that he may announce his decision at that game, but did not.

Getting Diallo has become even more important than it previously was as Pitt lost out on getting Charlotte transfer Mike Thorne, who will head to Illinois. But with the Panthers up against some stiff competition, landing him still looks like an uphill battle.
