The 2012 Portsmouth Invitational Tournament rosters have been announced and, as expected, Pitt senior guard Ashton Gibbs is among the field. The event will run from Wednesday through Saturday in a high school in Virginia.
I was holding out hope that Nasir Robinson would get a look, too, but that isn't the case.
Last year, Gilbert Brown, Gary McGhee, and Brad Wanamaker all played in the event. It's a good place to get in front of NBA scouts, but Gibbs and Robinson are both still probably long shots to get drafted. If I had to guess, though, I'd say that Gibbs' chances are a bit better of signing as an undrafted free agent.
Gibbs will be joined by Pitt enemy, Louisville's Kyle Kuric, among others on his team.
He had an excellent junior year and while a bit undersized, is believable as a three-point specialist down the road if he can find his shot again.
Nas simply has no position. He was small for a power forward in college and that will be even more evident in the NBA. Still, you could do much worse in life than end up playing overseas making good, tax-free money.
Here's the full roster of players scheduled for the event.
