Former Pitt center Joseph Uchebo reportedly headed to Charlotte

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

We've known for a while that Joseph Uchebo wasn't likely to return to the Pitt basketball team. It appears to be all but official now and the center is expected to play for Charlotte this year.

Ironically, Uchebo will help fill the void left by big man Mike Thorne, Jr., who left for Illinois. You might remember him as the transfer Pitt pursued earlier this year.

Uchebo had some knowledge of Charlotte. He actually visited there back in 2011 when he was finishing up high school.

It's unfortunate he never really worked out for Pitt, but it was a questionable move from the start with his major knee injury. He had surgery a few years ago and even last year when Stephen caught up with him at the Pro-Am, he was still only 60%-70% healthy by his own admission. Most of the time he didn't look all that fluid on the court and was pretty limited in what he could do.

I'm hoping he can have more success at Charlotte and at least enjoy a year of basketball there. He's obviously not an NBA prospect and with the health issues, playing in a good overseas league might be a reach for him. Would be nice to see him be able to play in longer stretches and contribute.
