Preseason USA Today Coaches College Basketball Poll: Pitt unranked, but receives votes

Debby Wong-USA TODAY Sports

The first major preseason college basketball poll made its way out on Wednesday and the Panthers weren't ranked. Not a huge (or even a small) surprise, really. Pitt did take home a total of 23 points in the USA Today Coaches poll and that was good enough for 33rd overall.

To be honest, I didn't expect Pitt to garner even that much respect. The team lost their leading scorer and assist man in Tray Woodall and leading rebounder in Steven Adams. Three starters return, but as I said in my notes on ACC Media Day, there are questions there, too, with James Robinson's shooting ability and Talib Zanna changing positions.

Kentucky came in first overall and Duke at No. 4 was the first ACC team. Other ACC teams in the top 25 were No. 7 Syracuse, No. 11 North Carolina, No. 22 Notre Dame, and No. 25 Virginia. Future ACC team and defending champion Louisville checked in at No. 3. The five ACC schools were the most of any conference.
