Pitt and the USA Today/Coaches Poll Top 25 rankings

Al Messerschmidt

No, in case you hadn't heard yet, Pitt didn't make the preseason USA Today / Coaches Poll Top 25. In fact, they didn't even get a vote.

Still, I always like to see the first poll of the year and if you haven't yet, here it is.

As expected, Alabama checked in at No. 1 and took in 58 of the 62 first-place votes. Ohio State was second and brought in three first-place votes. Texas A&M received the last first-place vote, checking in at No. 6.

The ACC had only two teams in the poll - Clemson at No. 8 and Florida State at No. 12. Miami and Virginia Tech just narrowly missed the Top 25, coming in at No. 27 and No. 30 according to the Others Receiving Votes category. North Carolina was 37th, also receiving votes.

In addition to Florida State, Pitt will play one other Top 25 team in No. 11 Notre Dame.
