Over the weekend, Pitt track and field stars Desmond Palmer and Evann Thompson participated in the NCAA National Championships. Neither won their individual event but both earned some All-American recognition at the meet.

Palmer reached the 400m hurdles final but finished in eighth place after posting a time of 51.57 seconds - behind his semifinals time of 49.97 seconds. Last season, Palmer was a Second-Team All-American. While his final time was disappointing, he earned First-Team All-American status in the process.

Thompson participated in the women's 400m hurdles event, finishing 24th overall. Her time of 1:01:55 in the semifinals kept her from reaching the final. That earned her Honorable Mention All-American honors.Thompson's finish was a step back from that of last year, when she was 17th in the event.

Both should be back next season to contend for a national championship - Palmer is a sophomore and Thompson a junior.
